In my Bible Study we have been going through the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan. It is a challenging book, and not because of any advanced vocabulary nor deep thoughts. It has me questioning and evaluating my every action and thought, and has challenged the way I carry out my life. Today I was yet again hit over the head by both the book and God.
Today's read was a chapter titled Profile of the Obsessed. In this chapter Francis gives characteristics of a person who is obsessed with Jesus. I was especially convicted when he states that the average Christian spends ten minutes a day with God, and the average American spends over four hours a day watching TV. Then he asks the daunting question, "How much money is spent on yourself, and how much is directed towards God's kingdom? How much of your time is dedicated to pursuing your life and your goals, and how much is focused on God's work and purposes?"
Though TV is not really my thing, I have been totally obsessed lately with buying kayaks and fishing. I have spent way too much time researching prices, watching videos, searching for new accessories, and thinking about all the cool places we can visit and all the fish we will catch.
Though my interest seems pretty innocent and is merely a fun hobby, I think to myself, "Wow, what would my life look like if I were obsessed with God as I am with my current obsessions for kayak fishing?" How pathetic of myself to be more interested in a little plastic floating device then the creator of this universe.

Uh - I should have read your blog before writing mine - huh? Funny that we both wrote about this at the same time.
It is such a good thinking/doing kind of book.
