Ever heard of gaining the freshman 15? Of course you have! Well how about the marriage 15? Yeah, well maybe I haven't added on 15 pounds since saying, "I do" but I will say that my pants sure are snug. You see, it has taken me a good whole year to get a hang of how to cook for two. Who knew that we didn't really need to use a whole box of spaghetti noodles, a jar of marinara, a pound of meat, and a whole head of lettuce for dinner, completed of course with 30 homemade cookies for dessert.
I was recently at a bridal shower where they asked us to jot down some wise marriage advice on a note card, and we would all compile them for the bride to be and her spouse. While all the other sweet ladies put heartfelt deep tips to a happy marriage, I simply put, "half or 3/4 all recipes, so you don't get fat." I mean for real, of course she knows she needs to speak kindly to her husband and kiss before you say goodnight, yaddayadda....good stuff....but nobody teaches you before you get married that recipes are designated for parents with four sports playing teenage boys going through puberty. In fact friends and family throw their recipe books at you left in right to prepare the way to being a good cooking wife. The way to a man's heart is through his stomach, right?
Anyways, I look forward to the day when we can utilize those gargantuan recipes to feed our family of 11 (enough for our own football team) but for now we are trimming down so that I don't have to lay down on the bed and suck in to get my jeans on. Marriage 15, you will not win!
