Last night Brian and I went with our new furry friend, his foster Dad, and his furry foster sister to an assisted living home to visit with all the great elderly folks there. It was truly a blessing to be a part of that and to experience the joy that came with them interacting with these precious golden retrievers. Sampson, being his first night as a stand in practice therapy dog, was so excited. Savannah, his foster sister, is a pro therapy dog who has spent many days socializing with the old folks and even those with Alzheimers. She even carries her own leash in her mouth down the hall, and you can tell she knows which person lives in which room. She got ultra excited when we came to Trudy's door. Trudy is a previous biker chick who is a motherly legend at a local pub. She even has Harley Davidson stickers on her walker.
We met a lot of great people, and were excited to meet our future Dykens' doggy! Here is a pic from awhile back. I think this is when they took him from the shelter and brought him to the Golden Retriever Rescue. He is even cuter in person, and his red hair really shines. Hopefully we will be bringing him home on Saturday. You can be sure that we will be posting more pics when we get the cute guy at home with us.

Yay for a dog! I do think its a little funny that you dog has foster parents.
yeah we thought it was funny at first but after working with this organization for acouple of weeks it is really neat. When they get the dogs from various places they put them in these foster homes, who get them settled, learn about their personalities, take them to the vet until they are perfectly healthy before they go to a family (including getting fixed and healed up from that). So then when the dogs are physically and emotionally ready, they can get adopted into a permanent home. We even have a home evaluator, who came to see if our house was dog suitable, and who keeps us up to date on new dogs to go visit and see if they are a perfect match. Pretty intense process. Our home evaluator is like a dog matching hawk and calls and sends us emails multiple times a day. It is nice though, because when you go to a shelter you don't know what the dog's personality is really going to be like and how skittish they are going to be. These dogs normally spend a month with a foster family first.
