finding some peace

I have a confession, I let stress overwhelm me to the point of physical distress. It is ludicrous when I think about it. I guess it is little things lately that have built up inside me that have caused my chest to hurt, my stomach to ache, my feet to shuffle in my sleep, and my head to throb. I even busted a blood vessel in my eye and now I look like a bloody eyed vampire. I blame this ridiculousness on the mix of our upcoming move, an overwhelming April full of tests, a dab of work, perhaps even being a "single" wife, and simply my negative attitude.

However today I finally felt some peace, which I attribute to a little weekend get-a-way. This weekend I spent some time with some lovely friends exploring D.C. I must say when Friday afternoon rolled around I wasn't really looking forward to the trip at all. I was running on 4 hours of sleep after a night of studying. I had taken my test in a rush on my lunch break, my chest was still aching from test anxiety, and I couldn't stand to look in the mirror and see my gross looking eye. But then came the trip, and the fellowship, friendship, and laughter. We got to our hotel and fell asleep pretty fast; my body ached for some rest. I woke up the next morning feeling so refreshed, and a wave of comfort came over me. We visited the Natural History Museum, which was packed of people. Even through the crowds, I had a very enjoyable time. Hunger set in a few hours into it and though I did get a bit panicked around the mobs of tourist, I emerged to the outside world in good spirits. Shortly thereafter, we found ourselves stuck outside in a hail storm, but even that was fun. To escape the wild weather, we paid way too much for a cab ride for a mere 2 miles, but I just shrugged. We traveled through the city to get to the lamest festival ever, but I just thought that was funny. Nothing could really phase me; as I was happy to be in good company and swept away from Portsmouth for the day. I think I just needed to get away and refocus.

Today the sun shines and my spirits are up. The weight on my chest has seemed to disappear, and for that I am very happy.
