Asheville is a very unique hippy town nestled in the mountains. I honestly felt awkwardly out of place in my everyday average dress attire. I wouldn’t know where to begin on dressing like the eclectic individuals in that town. I am a little envious of their free spirit ways.
So on this little vacation we ate our hearts out. A few people gave us recommendations of places to eat, but on our first night there we let our noses find our dining experience. After some beer sampling at Lexington Ave. Brewery, we were making our way to a sushi joint when we walked by the best smelling restaurant ever that hosted a rather large crowd. So Doc Chey’s Noodle House it was and I gotta say it was pretty darn delicious and the price was just right. Of course we couldn’t make it back to our hotel without a dessert, so we hit up the lovely French Broad Chocolate Lounge.
The following morning we decided to partake in the deliciousness of Sunny Pointe Café. Let me tell you, best Huevos Rancheros ever….better yet best breakfast dish EVER. I was so jealous that Brian had picked that and not me but he was nice to share. After a foggy drive on the parkway and a visit to see the ginger bread houses at Grove Park Inn, we found our tummies rumbling a bit so but of course we had to fill them quick. We found our way off the beaten path to 12 Bones Barbeque. Brian and I shared a few side items but I gotta say, it wasn’t my favorite BBQ by any means though the ribs were the best out of the bunch there. With our tummies full we made our way up to Shoji Retreats for our reserved private outdoor hot tub, sauna and cold bath overlooking the mountains. How relaxing and beautiful! All the relaxing called for more food, obviously. While waiting for a table at Tupelo Honey Café we grabbed a beer at Jack of the Wood. Good stuff my friends. Brian and I shared an appetizer and entrée at Tupelo Honey Café. We especially loved the Appalachian Egg Roll and the overall vibe they had going on there. After dinner we went to the Lobster Trap to try some Oyster Brewing Co. beer. Well we decided since we shared an entrée that night that we should share some oysters there. They were good and the oyster stout was delicious. I know. I know. Fatties, right? Oh but it gets worse, we went back to the French Broad Chocolate Lounge for some chocolate truffles. Don’t worry though, I was so stuffed that I couldn’t consume any of those said truffles….well atleast not until the next morning as soon as I woke up. Yeah, that might be worse.
On to the last and final day of our food consumption tour of Asheville. Somehow we still had room for one last restaurant for breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed Early Girl Eatery with their eclectic breakfast options. However, the most memorable part about the experience was the horrible awkward first date happening at the table inches next to us. After an hour of ease dropping and eating we finished our trip with a little shopping at some unique stores. We waddled back to the car and made way to Virginia for Thanksgiving where we continued to consume way too much food. What a wonderful trip and a great time spent with my fun husband.
