thoughts on Virginia Tech.

Everyone knows that I LOVE Virginia Tech. It could be described to others as an obsession. Even my husband has been converted into a honorary Hokie. It warms my heart to see him wear his VT ball cap paired with a Virginia Tech hoody. We were just in Blacksburg for the recent Thursday night game and man oh man that place is magical.

It was with much sadness and heartbreak to hear yesterday of more violence on the campus of Virginia Tech. Its something that I can not comprehend yet brings me back to the horrifying days of my junior year.

Honestly, I understand that non Hokies looking in from the outside might think of Virginia Tech as some kind of ghetto place. I get it, the odds are against us on that one. It makes me very sad, because I know that Virginia Tech is the most beautiful place with the most incredible students. I know the truth and I wish the whole world could see that. I hate thinking that others view it as a violence factory, it just isn't.

Everywhere you go, you are going to find sick and twisted people. Its the world we live and we can't hide from it. I think one man's actions spurred on another with open opportunity to dig into the gaping but healing hole of vulnerability and fear.

Virginia Tech is still a wonderful school. It cannot be defined by the unfortunate events of violence that have occurred on its campus. Being a Hokie means being a part of a big united family. My family has been hurt a lot in the past years and it breaks my heart, but Hokies are strong and Hokies prevail. I will sport burnt orange and Chicago maroon proudly till the day that I die.

I am Hokie!
