Where History Lives and Where Food Thrives

Charleston makes for the perfect weekend getaway. Brian and I had a fabulous time together on my visit down to see him. He is at the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy, where he has spent the last week beating up people and in return getting beat up himself.

Friday night we went out for some down right Southern cooking at the popular Jestine's Kitchen. Now thats some good Mac' and Cheese. Just don't forget to hit up that Coca-Cola cake.







Saturday we visited Battery Park, then met up with Stephanie Jo and Trevor for the SPCA's tenth annual Chili Cookoff and Oyster Roast, with all you can eat chili and oysters. I shucked my first round of freshly steamed oysters! What a great event! Stephanie had arranged a VIP lounge for us at King Street Grille to watch the SEC Championship. Though the Gators lost, we enjoyed our VIP service and leather recliners. Brian and I then met up with some new Coast Guard couple friends at Tommy Condon't Irish Pub. The cozy little pub offered us some fun tunes to clap along to as an Irish band played their little ditties. To end the night Brian and I got the most delicious treats at Kaminsky's Cafe. Their tollhouse pie was mmm mmmmm GOOD, just don't forget to add some scoops of icecream to it!








We were excited all weekend for Sunday's big plan to go on a carriage tour around Historic Charleston. With five carriage companies to choose from, we went with Southern Livings top rated Palmetto Carriage Company. What interesting facts and beautiful sites to see. I would definitely recommend the experience to anyone. After our tour, we were up for some huge greasy great burgers at Moe's Tavern. After walking that off around the city and then a nice Sunday afternoon nap, it was time for even more eatings at the oh so groovy pizza joint Mellow Mushroom. There was only one way to end our great trip in Charleston, another Tollhouse Pie to go from Kaminkis, along with some vanilla icecream purchased from Harris Teater to take back to our hotel room to enjoy once our stomachs finally settled from all our days eatings.










Needless to say, we sure do know how to eat and Charleston offers gazillions of dining options. More importantly, it was great to spend some time with my husband before he goes on his second patrol next week. Now excuse me as I go nibble on some lettuce as my love handles recover from our mini vacation.
